Yarn Eggs ~ take 2

The kids and I made Yarn Eggs last year before Easter.

I hadn't planned on making them again this year, but Sassy was concerned that we didn't have any Easter decorations up.  So, one day while Sassy and Action were at school and Smiley was down for a nap, I set out to make some small yarn eggs.

I used:

Water Balloons (I wanted smaller eggs than last year)

Bright colored Embroidery Floss (that I took out of a friendship bracelet making kit)

Glue 

and

Water

First I watered down my glue and blew up my balloons.

Then I took my embroidery floss, dipped it into the watered down glue and wrapped, wrapped and wrapped it around my balloons.

 I laid them out to dry.

When they were dry, using my finger, I loosened the floss from the balloon.  

Then I popped the balloon and pulled it out

Voila, cute little Easter Eggs.

And Sassy feels so much better now that we have some Easter decorations up.

Yarn Storage

I started with a couple of these:

Spray painted them ~ I used yellow and silver (no photos so you'll have to use your imagination ☺)

Glued them together ~ I used gorilla glue ('cause that's what was close) ~ then clamped them together until the glue dried.

Hung them up on the wall ~ by  driving a screw through the bottom of a couple of the cans and into a stud (in my beautifully unfinished, windowless, storage/craft hole in the basement ~ and I say that lovingly ☺ ~ which is why the pictures are SO good!)

Finally, I put some yarn in them.  I have lots more yarn, but as much as I like coffee, I just can't seem to go through cans that quickly, so I'll be saving cans and adding them in.

Really though, you don't have to put yarn in them ~ spray paint, brushes, whatever your heart desires.

Yarn Eggs

The kids decided we needed to get some Easter Decorations out. 

Great idea except for the fact that I am typically not a every holiday decorator ~ I tend to decorate by season.

So, we set off to make some eggs.

Here's what you need ~ yarn (from our experience the thinner  the better.), glue (I think any white glue would work), water, and balloons

1.  Blow up your balloons around 6-8 inches in diameter

2.  Mix equal parts water and glue in a disposable container (we used a paper bowl)

3.  Cut as many 3 foot strands of yarn as you want ~ the more you use the fuller your "egg" ~ We probably used around 10 or so (I never really counted ☺)

4.  Working strand by strand, dip each piece into the glue/water mixture and pull between your fingers to wipe off any extra glue.

5.  Wrap yarn around balloon.

When they are all finished lay them out on a piece of parchment paper or waxed paper to dry.

Let them dry for about 24 hours (GASP! ours only dried for 19 hours)

When they are dry, run your finger between the yarn and balloon to help release it.

Then POP the balloon

Once deflated, remove the balloon .

Voila ~ yarn eggs
