Something to Think About Sunday ~ The Greatest Gift

The Greatest Gift

Last Wednesday, I was driving with Sassy and Action.

We happened to drive past a cemetery.

Action expressed that "so many people have died."

Sassy replied, "But Action, the people who have died, have received the greatest gift!"

Picture a confused look on Actions face
(after all, those people are dead, how can they get a gift?)

She continued, explaining,
"They are alive, in heaven with God.
Their bodies are buried, but their souls are in heaven, and God has made them new!
They can't come down to earth, but they can watch over all of their loved ones!
See Action, it's the GREATEST GIFT!"

I just drove, smiling because it is a Great Gift, and she understands it so well, even at 9 years old.

Friday Funny

A man and his wife are awakened at 3:00 am by a loud pounding on the door.  The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain,  is asking for a push.

"Not a chance," says the husband, "it is 3:00 in the morning!"

He slams the door and returns to bed.

"Who was that?" asked his wife.

"Just some drunk guy asking for a push," he answers.

"Did you help him?"  She asks.

"No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is pouring rain out there!"

"Well, you have a short memory," says his wife. "Can't you remember about three months ago when we broke down, and those two guys helped us?  I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself!  God loves drunk people too."

The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain.

He calls out into the dark, "Hello, are you still there?"

"Yes," comes back the answer.

"Do you still need a push?"  the husband calls out.

"Yes, please!" comes the reply from the dark.

"Where are you?" asks the husband.

"Over here on the swing set," replied the drunk.

Embrace the Camera

The other night hubby took Sassy and Action to an NBA basketball game.
So it was just Smiley and I at home.
And we decided to break the rules :)

You see, Hubby built this with Action.

And they put up this sign,

keep out
Dad and Jackson
No Girls Allowed!

But since they were gone, we thought we'd break in and hang out

in the dark,

just the 2 of us

And we enjoyed every moment!

Sorry about the bad, grainy pics and the scary nostril shot ;)

Have I told you that I am co-chair person of a fundraising event.

A fundraising event to raise money for the children programs in our church.

An event that includes a $1 kid raffle, Silent Auction and breakfast.

Breakfast for 600.

Our event is taking place this coming Sunday, the 27th.

My blog is not the only thing that has been neglected recently.

The Laundry.

The Cleaning.

I know, Gross!!!

And Smiley, well, she's been keeping me on my toes:

Stickering (is this even a word? ☺) me while I sneak in an quick e-mail response during a little bead stringing time:

Potty training:

I promise I'll get rid of this one before she starts dating ☺

Swiping her sister's recorder any chance she can get:

And playing it REALLY loudly:

Adding extra sugar to her cereal:

And peeling enough clementines to feed the entire block:

But always managing to get a smile out of me :)

So hopefully, after this weekend, my home and my time will be back in order.

As for Smiley,  I think she will still be demanding my time,  the need for me to have eyes in the back of my head and the ability to read her mind so I can be ready to intervene if necessary.

And you know what?  That makes me smile from the inside out, because there is no other place I'd rather be!

Including snuggled up to her here as she refuses to move :)

42.  A Delivery
43.  The opportunity to renew our vows
44.  The beautiful sound of birds singing again

Friday Funny

A doctor on his morning walk, noticed the old lady pictured above, sitting on her front step smoking a cigar, so he walked up to her,  "I couldn't help but notice how happy you look! What is your secret?"

"I smoke ten cigars a day," she said.  "Before I go to bed, I smoke a nice big joint.  Apart from that, I drink a whole bottle of Jack Daniels every week, and eat only junk food.  On weekends, I pop pills, get laid, and don't exercise at all."

The doctor exclaimed, "That is absolutely amazing! How old are you?"

"Forty," she replied.

Have a great weekend!

♥ From my house to yours ♥

The Valentines have been addressed, and yes, they were store bought (fine, Internet bought), and being delivered as I type.  Actually, the mail lady (☺) just grabbed her note and chocolates out of our mailbox. Teacher gifts were created (You can find the tutorial here, Thank-you Jen! We purchased our sanitizer at the $1 store, for $1 ☺, instead of rub-on transfers, we used decorative stickers with clear backgrounds ~ 8 sheets, $1.99 on clearance at Michael's and pipe cleaners instead of wire and beads)

The house is decorated, well kind of (Thank-you bloggy friends, for my new fabulous accessories, you ARE the best).

And the Salmon is thawing for tonight's dinner.

Well, today is Valentine's day ~ The day we tell the people around us that we love them.

But WHY?

Saturday, we received a phone call extending the sad news that a dear family friend had passed away.

He was a Young "old" man.

He was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, and the outlook was not good.  He was a man of God and he fought.  He won too. He won more time with his family, his beautiful wife, and his friends.  He won the hearts of many with his outlook on life, his prayerfulness, his optimism and his spirit.

Of course, there are the standard word said, "he's in a better place" and "he feels no pain".  While these words are true, they do not fill the whole left behind by this great man.

Which, brings me back to today, Valentine's day.

Why not celebrate the ones you love everyday?

Why not let those who are important in your life, those you are thankful for and those you should be thankful for know how you feel everyday?

A quick note.
A kiss (ok, not just anyone gets a kiss ~ don't go kissing the newspaper delivery person, if you want them to come back, and not with a lawyer!)
A hug (see above disclaimer)
A word of thanks
A letter via "snail mail"
A simple thank-you
A smile
Your undivided attention

Something, somehow, someone EVERYDAY.

Not just on a "holiday".

So tonight, it's Salmon, tomorrow, it may be leftovers, but you can better believe, they will be hot, on a clean plate and served with love and a smile ~ as long as no one yells "ewwwww GROSS" before they even sit at the table ~ HA! ;).  After all, it's nourishment for the body as well as for the soul.

Have a beautiful day my friends and know I am thankful for you today, and everyday!

Jim ~ you will be missed!
