Snow Day

Last friday brought on another snow day. 10 more inches of the lovely stuff.   The kids were excited.  Me, I'm frustrated by the late arriving spring. The wet, heavy snow is not fun to shovel and I'm ready to be outside.  We do need the moisture, so for that I am thankful.  Anyway,  I decided that mother nature must be telling us that we need to build a snow man.  Since, as of Friday, we hadn't.   I convinced the kids of my theory that if they finally built a snow man, maybe, just maybe the snow would stop coming....

 A lot of spring, snow playing, fun was had.  And did it work?  Well, we are suppose to get up to 4 more inches of the white stuff by Tuesday......  Hard to play baseball and softball in this stuff.  But, we'll make the most of it!

Anyway, 
Yesterday, Smiley and I spent a good part of the morning at the park enjoying a beautiful sunny day!

and in case you didn't know, she's 3 :)

It was nice to get away from "the mess" and smile with her.

"We're having a heat wave, a tropical Heat Wave......"

Yep, that is an old song, but it is so true today!

So, we pulled out the kiddie pool for the first time this season (outdoor public pools aren't open until Friday) and tried to cool off:

Brightening Up

I don't know about where you live, but up until today the weather has been cloudy, drippy and dreary.  So I decided to add a little sunshine to my front entry.

Here is the before, in all it's new spring wreath and dirty glass door glory:

I purchased this chair from Sam's Club (I was too impatient to find one on Craig's list, thrift store, or garage sale).

Using some bright yellow spray paint, I spruced that baby right up for a fabulous pop of color.

Little Smiley, decided she needed a chair too, so she pulled an old rusty one (given to us about 10 years ago by our sweet elderly neighbor at the time).

The branches I had picked up off the ground one morning while walking my dog ~ who by the way likes to hang out in the cabinet I guess.

I couldn't find her one day and went to go shut the cabinet door (although they are gettting better, no one in my house seems to think it is necessary to fully shut all of our cabinet doors) and someone popped up.

Anyway, Hubby was attempting to clean out our garage and was tired of moving my lovely branches from point A to point B and back again.  So I propped them up in a planter, via some landscaping bricks,  stole some lava rock from around the house and filled it up.

Works for me, at least for a couple of weeks until I'm ready to do some flower planting!

Ahhh..... much better!

And of course, the sun is out and shining today :)

Spring Wreath ~ AKA, my front door is no longer naked!

I have to admit, my front door was naked!

You see, I took down our Christmas wreath and never put another one up.

Every time I looked at our poor naked door I thought to myself, "That door needs a new outfit, a brighter one"

So my spring wreath was created.

Now, I know that what I created was/is not earth shattering, or even a new idea, but I love it none the less, and perhaps you too will be inspired :)

Here's what I used:

A large grapevine wreath
Fabric
Buttons
Coordinating thread
and some Hot Glue

I took a long strip of fabric

(it was about 3 ½ inches wide and unfortunately, I forgot to measure the length, 

but the longer and wider the strip, the larger the flower)

Folded it in half and sewed a running stitch from the beginning to the end of the fabric strip.

Gathering the fabric as I went

Until I had sewn and gathered the entire strip

Next I manipulated the fabric strip into a flower shape,  

sewed a coordinating button on and moved on to the next flower.

All together I made 6 flowers, and using hot glue, I glued them onto my wreath and tied that baby onto my naked front door with some pretty blue ribbon.

Ahhh, I feel so much better, now that my door is dressed!

I also embraced my wishful thinking and added a new message to my front porch chalkboard

And I'll pay no attention to the fact that I woke up last Saturday morning to more snow on the ground and this week the temps are suppose to stay in the 40's.
