Ordinary Miracles (5)

I apologize, this post should have posted last Monday (like the Mondays before it), but it was not written.  It was a busy weekend, no school on Monday and before I had time to blink (aka type) Friday (today) arrived.  So here I sit, indulging in a beverage, with the Olympics playing in the background while I am remembering the ordinary miracles of the previous week.

1.  I was asked to help out at Smiley's Valentine Party at school.  It was very fun to watch her interact with all of her preschool friends.
(us, being goofy, just before going to her party)

2.  February is "I love to read month".  Sassy volunteered to read stories to children who called in to a phone number given out to children in our school district.  She read continually for 2 hours and said she can not wait to do it again next year.  Makes me proud to see her wanting to volunteer and contribute to her community.

3.  Valentines day ~ the kids had the day off of school.  I pulled a quick birthday party together for Action and his friends (planned it the day before).  I took Action, 3 of his friends, Sassy and Smiley to the Lego Movie.  We basically had the theatre to ourselves, except for one older couple (60ish).  Then we came back to our house for pizza and cupcakes ~ not to mention fort making and Nerf gun fights.

4.  My mom came for a visit.  While she was here only a short time, it was great to see her!

5.  Sassy had a big volleyball tournament ~ we spent about 15 hours watching or waiting to watch volleyball (in Sassy's case she was either playing, refereeing, or waiting to play volleyball).  Her team ended up 5 th  out of 64 teams.

Oh, and I must mention, Action had a blast hanging out watching volleyball ~ ☺

So these are a few of the Ordinary Miracles of my life and I ask you to look back at your week and think about the ordinary things, people, places or happenings that took place in your life.  The ordinary that is usually taken for granted, but if you think about it are miracles in and of themselves ~ snuggle time with one of your kids, a minute to yourself to do something you enjoy, a package in the mail.....

Think about it, how would our perspective change if we chose to see our ordinary days as miracles that we should find wonder in and be thankful for.

No time for anything except.... Family and Friends

Our weekend was busy, but was wonderful.
Friday night started off with dinner at our friends house.  The kids played, the adults conversed it was a great relaxing evening.

Saturday was state tournament day for Sassy.  They lost their first game.  Won their second game and lost their third.  The game they won was a great game.  Their defense was on, their bats were swinging.  All systems were a go!  The game was tied, and they won by stealing home.  Sassy had great hits all day long and made some awesome plays.

After the tournament, we headed to a friends (parent's of one of Sassy's teammates) house for a impromptu team get together.  Another fun night, conversation, cocktails, laughs and a couple intense games of shuffleboard ;)

Sunday, off to a gorgeous lake home.  Many of the girls from Sassy's softball team were there as well as their families.  We dove right into fun and relaxation.

It was a beautiful day spent on the lake.

Needless to say, after such a fun/busy weekend (including sleepovers for both Sassy and Action) the kids were wiped out :)

Action's baseball season and Sassy's softball season have come to an end.  This means we have a few weeks of nothing (nothing scheduled anyway).  No rushing here or there in the evenings and weekends.  I am looking forward to relaxing evenings, long family bike rides and whatever else comes up.

A weekend of Softball and Relaxation

We had a fantastic weekend!  Saturday started off early ~ 6am.  Sassy had a day long softball tournament about an hour away so we woke up some sleepy kiddos, ate some breakfast and headed out.  Her coach, who is also her Dad :)  has the team arrive about an hour early for warm ups.  Anyway, I knew it was going to be a long day out in the sun, so while they were doing their pre-game warm ups before the first game Action, Smiley and I hung out in the car, reading and playing with the iPad.

Then we were onto the games ~ they ended up playing 4 games and going 2-2.  The girls played really well. Sassy mostly played in the catcher positon, but also played 3rd, left field and had a couple of innings as pitcher.  She did really well, striking out a handful of girls.

(getting a pep talk from Dad/Coach after a tough inning
this is probably my favorite picture of the weekend!)

Yesterday, Mother's day, we went to church, took the boat out, hit a lakeside restaurant for Bloody Mary's and appetizers, came home and relaxed.  It was a beautiful, relaxing day spent together as a family!

How was your weekend?

A few things from this past weekend.

Sassy, who I have given a new nickname ~ at least at home anyway ~ had her 8U softball tournament this past weekend.

What a whirlwind.

They played and won 1 game Friday night, against the team who ended up winning 1st place in the tournament.

Then lost their next 3 games on Saturday.  BUMMER!

Over 1/2 of the girls had never played before.
And all of the teams we played in the tournament, we had lost to in the regular season.  For example, for our 3rd game we played a team that had beat us in the regular season 31-11.  In the tournament we lost by 1pt in extra innings.  All of the games were close and played well.

And regardless of the place we ended up with (6th for those of you wondering) the girls were proud of themselves, learned A LOT, and had a blast this season.

Our weekend, in pictures:

Since the girls are the  Purple Queens, I couldn't help myself and I made tiara cookies for them.

Lots and Lots of cookies

A little between game relaxing:

Metals were handed out and eaten......

I mean proudly worn:

And coach/daddy/hubby was loved and very much appreciated:

And there couldn't be 2 prouder parents:

Way to go Sassy ~ what a great season you had!

Oh, and by the way, her new nickname.....

Should maybe be Miss Double.... because every hit she had during the tournament was a double, but we are going with wheels.

This girl can run like lightening.

And one more thing...

We ended up taking the girls out for ice cream twice this season for filling it up!

Way to go!
