Fancy

With a 5 year old in the house, you learn to expect unexpected statements.

I was driving down the road with the radio on.  Smiley was all buckled in and singing away, very typical behavior for her.  I wasn't really listening to the radio, but I did hear her exclaiming,  "I'm so fancy!"

I checked the XM display and realized it was the song "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea (video here ~ it's the explicit version of the song, but I couldn't find an official video with a clean version).  Yes, I know this song isn't 5 year old appropriate, but I needed a short break from the "Animal Farm" on Kids Place Live..... And since Smiley is really good at hearing and picking up lyrics the station was changed shortly thereafter.

The back of the vehicle got quiet, which is quite uncommon.  About five minutes later Smiley says, "Hey mom, I bet she isn't even fancy.  I bet she just has on a blue skirt with a sparkly shirt......."

Now I can't hear that song without thinking of Smiley and that just makes me smile!

The Family part of our Vacation

So last week when we were on vacation, I was the one behind the scenes if you will.  You know the "camera Mom".  The one behind the camera, trying desperately to capture these guys
and their smiles and all of their joy, the relaxation, the action, and the non action.  Just trying to capture our family so we can remember years from now the fun we had together.  However, as I look back through the pictures that were taken, I am hardly in them.  But here are a couple I am in (and they are so flattering!), so my kids know, I was there and we had fun together.
We have so much fun escaping the "real world" every year and I am already looking forward to next year (but please, next year take your time.... don't come too fast!)

Get out from behind the camera and get into the picture ~ embrace that camera!

Parking Tickets!

Working people frequently ask retired people what they
do to make their days interesting.

Well, for example, the other day, my Dad and Mom went
into town and visited one of their favorite shops.
When they came out, there
was a cop writing out a parking ticket.

They went up to him and my Dad said, "Come on, man, how
about giving a senior citizen a break?"

He ignored them and continued writing out the ticket.

Dad called him an "a**hole".

He glared at him and started writing
another ticket for having worn-out tires.

So Mom called him a "poop head".

He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first.
Then he started writing more tickets.
This went on for about 20 minutes.
The more they abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Just then, their bus arrived, they got on it
and went home.

They try to have a little fun each day
NOW that their retired!

It's important at their age.

:)

Alright, so it's not a true story.  My parents aren't retired and I can't really see them doing this.  Although I could potentially see hubby's parents, or maybe I should say, hubby's Dad pulling a stunt like this!

I hope I made you smile on this lovely Friday morning!
Enjoy every minute, it's the only August 12, 2011 you'll ever have!

Now entering the Twilight Zone.

We got away last weekend.

We left the computers.

Used our phones minimally.

And, as we drove we came upon this:

I felt like I was entering the
TWILIGHT ZONE
