Oh My it's Cold

I know many places in the US have been struck with crazy cold temperatures, and the state I live in is one of those. 

I saw a little blurb on Facebook yesterday that stated my state was currently colder than Mount Everest, Antartica and Siberia.  

Friends, it is cold here! 

My kids haven't had school yet this week  ~ 3 snow/too cold to go days so far and tomorrow is up in the air. Not that they are complaining!

And breaking news, I just got a phone alert that states we have now hit 57 degrees below zero wind chill. Brrrr......

Anyway, this past weekend my hubby's parents drove 4 1/2 hours to come visit and celebrate Jackson's 15th birthday (which was last week).  

While it wasn't quite as cold as today and yesterday have been, it was still quite cold, but we got out and had some fun anyway.

They arrived Friday night and we spent some time catching up and playing cards.  I was completely unsuccessful in my quest to win and ended up being the biggest loser of the night.  Hopefully next time I will be able to turn my luck around!

Saturday morning after I made a yummy egg bake via this easy recipe I found on Pinterest, Hannah and I jumped in the car for a 40 minute drive to a softball photoshoot.  She was one of two players selected from her varsity softball team to be a "featured" player for a high school sports publication.

When we were finished with that we grabbed the rest of the family and headed to our local Top Golf facility to do a little golfing.  I'm not quite sure what the actual temperature was when we were there but since the high was only 10 degrees on Saturday, it was chilly. Sitting under the heat features did make it mostly comfortable.  

After that we warmed up at home, went to mass, out to dinner at Jackson's requested restaurant ~ Red Robin (that kid loves a good burger) then bowling.  I sat out of bowling as I tweaked my arch while working out and wasn't able to put a whole lot of pressure on it. It was fun watching a couple of good games of boys vs girls. Oh, and the girls won!

Sunday brought one more amazing breakfast bake via Pinterest. Biscuits and gravy casserole, another one of Jackson's favorites! Then off to watch Hannah play a couple of softball games in a sports dome. -9 degrees! So glad she was playing inside!

When those were over my in-laws headed for home and we had a nice, relaxing Sunday awaiting the snow and cold that was destine to come.

4 1/2 days of fun

We headed out of town last Thursday for a long weekend of fun with hubby's side of the family.

We did some fishing:

Some singing, listening and laughing (we only got one phone call from the front desk to keep it down):

Some golfing (we were trying to determine, but I think it's been 3 years since I've golfed at a course or driving range..... it wasn't quite as scary as I thought it might be):

They even tried racing our dog, Zoie.  Zoie won :)

We had a great time and now it's time to unpack do tons of laundry and get back to reality :)

If you read my last post, you already know that we left our technology at home, hitched up our boat (maybe I didn't mention that part) and drove about 400 miles (800 round trip) to get away and meet up with some other family members.

We mostly fished.
and while we waited to hook the big one:
♦ Some of us read (me).
♦ Some of us cried (Smiley wasn't not loving the boat.  I think it was a combination of being enclosed ~ she is kind of a free spirit ~ and having to wear a life jacket, I understand that it is not the most comfortable, but no exceptions!)
♦ Some of us played with our DS (Sassy)

When we weren't fishing, we were:
Relaxing
Eating
Swimming
Playing
and
Enjoying our family.

We also found some time to golf.  Except someone forgot to pack my golf clubs.

My left handed ones.

Everyone else is right handed.

Hmmm.....

Oh well,

Turned out I didn't need them.

Smiley ended up with a temp of 103 and only wanted her mama (yep, the one without golf clubs) and to sleep.

But the rest of the family golfed.

and I sat on the porch at Grandpa and Grandma's house and watched while I held and snuggled my baby.

We had a great time.

Now, to catch up on e-mails and laundry!

Always thinking...

Just thought I would share a couple of cute ideas Sassy and Action threw out to me recently:

Action is taking golf lessons.

He is really enjoying himself and always seems to be toting a club around.
Yesterday he was practicing his swing with a plastic club in the house ~ no big deal ~ right?

Well, not until he found a hard, yellow, foam golf ball.

He decided practicing his swing wasn't good enough.

He needed to practice hitting the ball.

Fabulous.

Until...

he hit the window.

No damage done ~ thank goodness it was foam.

However he had an idea.

He stated ~ very matter of fact,
"Mom we need to get rid of our windows and put walls up instead so I can golf in the house."

Hmmm.... Maybe not?


Now on to Sassy....

I try to have Sassy read for at least 20 minutes everyday.
Which is not asking much because she enjoys reading.

However, yesterday she really didn't want to. She really wanted to watch TV.

She presented me with a wonderful solution.

She told me she would just turn the TV on mute and read what they were saying. She would even do it for 20 minutes.

Now what mother would not go for that?

Me either.

She went to her room and read for at least 30 minutes.

Silly girl! But nice try!
