Feeling Feisty

Not me, but a sweet, innocent, little 2 year old is feeling feisty today!

Tears
Yelling
Temper Tantrums
Mischief

So thankful naps are still a part of her day!

Monogram Rug

I found this picture of an entryway, last year in I think a special edition Better Homes and Gardens magazine (paging through while Sassy was in her gymnastics class):

Lucky for me that I had my camera with so I could take a picture of the picture (I'm sure no one though I was crazy)  since I couldn't steal it from the gymnastics center.

I loved the colors and all of the monograms, but I really loved the rug (and the pots ~ just might have to make those too☺).

and thought to myself, "EASY! I can do that!"

Now a year later, I am finally getting around to monogramming a rug!

Here's how I did it:

~ I purchased an inexpensive rug from Ikea ~ $7.99 to be exact (the website says $8.99, but I swear I only paid $7.99).
~ Found a font from the computer that I liked and printed off a huge "C"  (my son says it stands for Christmas ).  Then I cut it out, outside of the line, to make it a bit bigger.
~ I decided to paint in my monogram and not spray paint around it as shown in the magazine.  I also decided to add a border.

At first I was going to make it like this one from Ballard Designs:
So I taped off my rug:

But, I decided I liked how it looked with the border in farther (like where the tape is) in, so I re-taped my rug:

I painted the border with red acrylic paint (same color I used to paint my chalkboard).  Since there was so much texture in the rug I did more of a pounding motion with my paintbrush as opposed to a sweeping motion.

When that part was painted, I traced my "C" in the center of the rug, then filled that in with paint.

Slowly peeled off the tape ~ praying for no bleeding ☺ and VOILA:
A beautiful monogrammed rug!

The next morning (since it was 11:30 and dark out) I sprayed the rug with a clear spray paint to seal it and help increase the durability.

Here's what it looks like outside in the entry:

I'll be linking up here this week:

Friday Funny

I try to go to the health club most mornings.

The goal is to leave the house when my 2 older kids get on the bus for school.

By 9am I am usually on a treadmill (unless I'm taking a spin class ~ have you done them?  LOVE IT!)  ready to break a good sweat.  Typically, I like to run to my Ipod.  Unfortunately that has been out of commission for awhile so I find the hip hop radio station and hope for no commercials.

Anyway, our health club has a row of large flat screen TVs that line the the front wall and each TV is assigned a FM frequency.
W
hen I can't find a song I like, or am bored with the radio I tune into one of the TVs.

Since I am there in the morning, the Ellen Show is on.

The other day, while running with my headphones on, I decided to watch Ellen.  I don't quite remember what she was doing, or what she was talking about, but I do know that I found it funny ~ so funny in fact, that I could hardly keep a straight face and proceeded to laugh out loud.  I caught myself,  looked around ~ and only noticed 1 person (of many) looking at me ~ oops.  Hmm, same thing happened the next day too ~ so if you are at the health club and see someone laughing out loud at seemingly nothing, no worries, it's probably just me and I'm really not crazy.................. but I suppose that depends on who you ask ☺.

But really, how could you watch this and not laugh ~ or at least smile?

What makes you laugh?

Embrace the Camera

We had a little scare this week.

It had to do with tiny, little creepy crawlers.

We got a phone call on Sunday telling us that a couple of Sassy's friends had head lice.

ISH!!!!!!!!

Really?

These little buggers, bed bugs and ticks are 3 of the nastiest things ev-va!!!  In my opinion anyway!

So this week, we've done lots of this:

So far no sign of life ~ which makes me one VERY HAPPY MAMA!!!!

But I'm getting itchy just thinking about it again! Yuck!

Chalkboard Sign

Have you ever checked out the "As Is"  section at Ikea?

You should.

Awhile ago I purchased this cabinet door for $2.50 ~ not know quite what I was going to do with it, but knowing I would make it into something.

I decided to make a welcome/message sign for my front entry.

First I sanded it and primed it (probably wasn't necessary, but I did anyway).
Then I sprayed the whole thing with 3 coats of chalkboard paint.

Once that was completely dry (or maybe a couple of days later when I got back to it ☺) I painted the outside edge red.

I "seasoned" it  ~ not by dumping salt and pepper over it either ☺~ you know rubbing chalk all over it and then wiping it all off ~

Stapled some twine to the back and hung it by my front door.

I had intended to hang it by a 3M hook ~ but it seems those little babies don't stick to my lovely vinyl siding ~ So I made my twine hanger longer and hung it around our light.

I have to say, I love it!!!

and for Halloween:

You can go here to practice :)

Not really funny, but it is fun ☺!
